So a couple months ago someone brought my attention to the Gotye and Kimbra song Somebody That I Used to Know and for days I had it on repeat. When I saw that they were playing together at Terminal 5 I jumped on StubHub and snatched up a ticket to the sold out show. I had since downloaded all of Gotye's music onto my iPod and had amassed a little pile of favorite tunes. I go to a lot of shows, and I usually don't bother getting to a venue right when the doors open... I wish I had for this show. I got there at 7:30 for an 8p start time and the place was packed. I was stuck about 50 feet back from the stage behind a bunch of tall people... booo. Kimbra opened the show and was a little powerhouse. Her voice is amazing. I was super far back but found a couple decent vids on youtube to share with you:
Gotye's entire set was phenomenal. He had some trouble hearing himself on stage because the crowd was so loud-- singing, cheering, screaming. He played almost all of the songs that I hoped he would, including Bronte, Smoke and Mirrors, State of the Art (you must check out the video he had playing in the background on this one... love), Eyes Wide Open, Coming Back and of course, he sang Somebody That I Used to Know with Kimbra:
He played drums for most of the songs, and a giant projector played animated videos that illustrated a few of his songs. Everything was very well done and he put on a great show. If you're not familiar with his music, definitely check him out! I'll be seeing him next time he comes to NYC for sure.
